It was wonderful to hear these words today from a primary school student who had been experiencing severe difficulties retaining any knowledge about spelling and reading. ![]()

"I know this now because of all the other words I've learned."![]()

Clearly the student is really beginning to reflect back on his CodeBreakers lessons and piece together the information and demonstrate he is retaining information.
It's 1 year since The Write Offs aired on Channel 4. Tommy and I remain good friends and chat regularly. Next week we are meeting for a cuppa and catch up. ![]()

I listened to a colleague recount a child's experience of reading intervention yesterday. It still amazes me that a child who is struggling to read is taken into corridor for intervention. A quiet place with as little as possible background noise is needed, as often an individual has difficulty with auditory processing and working memory and the noise can impact on this. ![]()
The child was distraught by reading books below their age level, which when their peers came past could see them read. By putting the child in a room or area where the noise from passers by and others seeing the reading level could have provided a more effective intervention session.
